Q. Why do I need a website? A. The Internet has become a vast resource of information for business people as well as students as they discover the advantages of getting online: the ease of use and the most cost-effective means of advertising. Q. What is a domain name? A. A domain name is a unique name for your website that must be registered so nobody can use the same name, such as www.flagshipwebsites.com. Q. What is hosting and do I need it? A. Hosting is the place where your website will actually be placed. You will need both a domain and hosting. Q. I have a domain name and hosting. What else do I need? A. Nothing. Let’s get started. Q. I already have a domain name, but not hosting. Can you provide hosting? A. I do not provide hosting. A. You may obtain hosting with your current provider, or if they are too expensive..... A. To be honest with you, you are probably better off opting for a new domain name. Domain providers are very reluctant to allow name transfers to another provider. If your current name is wwww.sportspub.com, you may want to see if something like www.sportspubonline.com is available. Q. Can you recommend someone with both registration and hosting? A. Yes. www.doteasy.com. They offer FREE hosting when you register your name with them. There are no pop-ups or other annoying advertising that most other free hosts have. Registration is $25 per year. That's about the same as every other registrar. |
Q. What about a shopping cart? What do I need? A. If you are not concerned about inventory, I suggest using the Paypal Website Payments Standard. It is free and can be used along with your ebay items as well. If you are concerned about inventory, make sure you use a Paypal compatible shopping cart. Please note: The subject of shopping carts is best left to your individual needs. Q. Will I be able to maintain my site when it is done? A. Not unless you are familiar with HTML. I can maintain your site for a nominal fee or I will provide you with the HTML so you or someone else can maintain it. Q. How about promoting my site? A. I have a web submission program called WEBCEO that I will use to submit your site to hundreds of search engines or search engines of your choice if you wish. A. You will have the option of becoming a member of the Flagship Web Design WebRing at no charge to you. Q. OK. That sounds good. Now what about pricing? A. Pricing starts at $100. That will get you eight hours of web building. Most three page information sites will take about four hours. After that it is a very reasonable $20 per hour (compare that with $100-$150 per hour that most others charge). A.
